Do Google Business Profile posts help? What Google actually says

You'll find plenty of confident claims online about Google posts and rankings. Here's what Google itself says in its Business Profile help pages, and what that means for a busy owner.

What Google says posts are for

Google describes posts as a way to share up-to-date information and improve your customer experience: sales, specials, events, news and offers. Its help page says that when customers find your latest updates, it helps them decide to visit your business (Google Help: posts). The posts content policy describes them as a way to deliver relevant and timely information to your customers (posts content policy).

How Google says local ranking works

Google's local ranking help page says local results are based mainly on three things:

It also says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.

What Google recommends you do

So, do posts help?

Honestly: Google's ranking page doesn't list posts as a ranking factor, and we won't tell you a post will move you up in Maps. Nobody can promise that.

What Google does say is that posts are there for customers: they show what you do, what's new and that you're active, and Google says that helps people decide. A homeowner comparing three companies on their phone can see which one posted last week and which one went quiet a year ago. Since Google archives posts after six months (Google Help), a steady weekly post keeps that "From the owner" section current.

The practical answer: get the basics in Google's list right first (verified, complete, accurate, reviews answered, real photos), then post something useful every week so the people who find you see a business that's open and working.
