Who can post on my Google Business Profile for me?
The short answer: you, someone on your team you give access to, or a posting service. Whoever it is should never need your Google password, and you should be able to see every post before it goes live.
Your options
- You. Free, and you know the business best. The cost is time every week (see how to add a post).
- Someone on your team. An office manager or family member who already answers customer questions often writes good posts. Give them their own access to the profile rather than your login.
- A posting service. Someone writes and schedules the posts for you. That's what FreshMap does: one post a week, written from your own website, for $197/month.
What to check before you hand it off
- No passwords. A person or service posting for you should connect through their own access or a Google sign-in you approve, never your password. At FreshMap you connect once through a secure Google sign-in link from our scheduling tool, Metricool, and you can remove that access any time from your Google account.
- You see posts first. Ask whether you can approve, change or reject each post before it goes live.
- Only true facts. Posts should only mention services you offer, with no made-up prices, discounts, reviews or promises. Google can remove posts that break its content policy (posts content policy).
- No ranking promises. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking (Google's local ranking help page). Be wary of anyone who promises a top spot in Maps.
- Easy to stop. Month to month, with posts you keep if you leave.
What a good handoff looks like
Tell whoever posts for you which services you want promoted, which towns you serve, anything to avoid (a service you're phasing out, a busy season you can't take more work in), and how customers should reach you: the Call now button, online booking or a quote form. Then check the first few posts closely. Google lets you edit or delete a post from the Posts section of your profile if something needs fixing (Google Help: posts).
