How often should you post on your Google Business Profile?
The short answer: once a week. It's often enough that your profile always shows a recent post, and slow enough that a busy owner can keep it up all year.
Why weekly works
- Old posts drop out of view. Google says posts older than six months are archived unless you set a date range (Google Help: posts). A profile whose newest post is from spring looks quiet to someone comparing companies in the fall.
- Posts are for customers. Google describes posts as a way to share up-to-date information, and says that when customers find your latest updates it helps them decide to visit your business (Google Help: posts). A post from last week tells them you're open and working.
- Steady beats bursts. Five posts in one afternoon and then nothing for four months looks the same as never posting, a few months later. A weekly habit doesn't.
Can you post too often?
We don't know of a Google rule that sets a limit for normal business posting, and we won't invent one. What does hurt is posting filler: the same post reworded, keyword lists, or claims you can't back up. Google asks for posts that are accurate and professional, and its content policy can remove posts that break the rules, for example posts with phone numbers it can't verify (posts content policy). One useful post a week beats three thin ones.
Will posting more often rank you higher?
Nobody can honestly promise that. Google's local ranking help page says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Post for the customers who find you, and get the basics right too: a verified, complete and accurate profile, replies to reviews, and real photos.
A simple weekly plan
- Pick one day of the week and keep it. We post on Tuesdays.
- Rotate the kind of post: a seasonal tip, a service spotlight, a local post, a customer question, and a real offer only when you have one (see what to post each week).
- Write about 90 to 250 words with the point in the first sentence and one next step, using the Call now or Book button rather than a phone number in the text.
- Need topics? Use the post ideas library for your trade.
