How to add a post to your Google Business Profile (step by step)
Adding a post takes a few minutes once you know where the button is. These steps follow Google's own help page; Google changes its menus from time to time, so check there if a button has moved.
Add a post
- Go to your Business Profile (search for your business name on Google while signed in to the account that manages it).
- Select Posts, then Add post.
- Choose the type: Update, Offer or Event.
- Add what you want to include, such as a photo, a button or, for an offer, a coupon code.
- Write the post. To publish later, turn on Schedule this post and pick a date and time. To repeat it, use the Repeats menu.
- Select Post. If you manage more than one profile, choose which profiles get it, or select Skip to publish to just one.
Which type to pick
- Update: news, tips and service information. You can add a photo or video and a button that sends people to a page where they can book, order or learn more.
- Offer: a real sale or deal. Needs a title plus start and end dates and times; Google adds a "View offer" button.
- Event: needs a title plus start and end dates and times. Without times, Google shows it as lasting all day on those dates.
Edit or delete a post
Go to your Business Profile, select Posts, open the More menu next to the post and choose Edit or Delete. Google recommends editing posts when details change so they stay accurate.
What the status means
- Live: the post is public on Search and Maps.
- Pending: not shown yet. It may still be processing, or the profile may not be verified.
- Not approved: not shown because it broke a content policy. A question mark next to the status shows which one.
Common reasons a post doesn't go live
- A phone number in the text. Google says posts with contact details it can't verify, including phone numbers, may be removed, and suggests adding a Call now button instead, which uses your verified profile number (posts content policy).
- Links to untrusted sites. Link only to your own site or a trusted booking page.
- An unverified profile. Posts can sit at Pending until verification is done.
Where your post shows up
Per Google, on phones people see posts in the Updates or Overview tab on Search and Maps; on a computer they appear in the "From the owner" section. Posts older than six months are archived unless you set a date range.
