Google Business Profile posts for contractors: what works for home-service businesses

The short answer: post one useful update a week about the work you actually do, in the towns you serve, with one clear next step. Homeowners comparing contractors on their phone can see who's active.

Which post type to use

Google offers three kinds of post: updates, offers and events (Google Help: posts). For contractors almost every week is an update. Use an offer only for a real deal with real start and end dates, which Google requires for offers.

Five post ideas that fit any trade

  1. The seasonal check. What homeowners should look at this month: furnaces before the cold, gutters after the leaves, pipes before a freeze, decks and fences after winter.
  2. The warning signs. Pick one service and list the signs someone needs it.
  3. What the visit looks like. Walk through a typical job so a first-time customer knows what to expect.
  4. The question you answer every week. The one your office hears on the phone, answered in plain words.
  5. Where you work. Name the towns you serve and tie them to the season or the kind of homes there. Never invent a local event.

Winter is hard on wood fences.

Before the ground freezes, walk your fence line and look for posts that lean, boards that are loose or split, and gates that drag. Small repairs now keep a section from coming down in the first big storm.
